An Indian-origin Singaporean man  on Thursday was sentenced to jail for two months for shouting ‘Corona Corona’  and spitting multiple times on a hotel floor at Changi airport in Singapore.

As per reports, the man Jasvinder Singh Mehar Singh went to Azur restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport hotel on March 3.

After going to the restaurant, he took a plate and helped himself to some food from a buffet line without informing the staff.

However, when a waitress told him that the restaurant was closed, he smashed the plate and spat onto the floor before leaving.

The hotel manager Vikram Om PrakashKakroo later took the 52-year-old man to the hotel lobby and asked him to take a seat.

When Kakroo called the hotel’s security manager, Singh started walking towards the restaurant with the intention of breaking more plates there.

Kakroo somehow managed to take Singh back to a sofa in the hotel’s lobby.

After sitting down, Singh placed both his feet on the table in front of the sofa, kicked a plate off the table, spat on the floor twice and shouted ‘Corona Corona’.

The police were alerted at around 10.45 am on March 3.

Singh’s conviction is also the first conviction of its kind in the country related to the coronavirus outbreak.
