The government panel on Friday approved the marketing authorisation of Covishield, the vaccine candidate of Serum Institute of India, for emergency use in India, say media reports.

“The Subject Expert Committee has recommended in favour of marketing authoritsation to SII’s vaccine but with certain conditions,” a media report by The Economic Times quoted a person, who is aware of the matter, as saying.

The central government formed a subject expert committee which was given the tasks of vetting Covid19 vaccine proposals.

As per a report in CNBCTV18, the recommendation comes with certain conditions but it didn’t elaborate on them.

The Serum Institute of India has already manufactured 7.5 crore doses of Covishield and 4 crore doses are ready for delivery.

A report in India Today said the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) will take a final call on whether or not to approve the vaccine for emergency usage authorisation.
