The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a plea by civil service aspirants seeking an extra chance and let them appear in the 2021 UPSC prelims exam.
The civil service aspirants who filed the plea had exhausted their all available attempts in 2020.
The aspirants also sought for relaxations in upper age limit.
The petitioners approached the Supreme Court contending that they failed to appear for the UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and thus, sought an extra attempt for the UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2021.
The plea was dismissed by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Indu Malhotra and Ajay Rastogi.
The three-judge bench hearing the case said only one word – ‘dismissed’ – and did not read the judgment further.

A civil service aspirant can appear for the UPSC exams for a maximum of 6 times and has an upper age limit of 32 years.
OBC candidates have nine attempts till 35 years of age while SC/ST candidates till 37 years of age.
