COVID-19 scare looms large over the hosting of IPL 2021 following the second wave of the virus hitting India hard.
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) now faces massive challenges as COVID-19 cases in the Country are rising rapidly.
COVID-19 cases have also been detected from among the members of the IPL teams – players and support staff.
The 14th edition of IPL (Indian Premier League) is scheduled to kick-start from Friday (April 9).
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the IPL.
Daniel Sams became the second player from the RCB to be infected by the dreaded virus.
Earlier, left-handed opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a statement issued by RCB, the 28-year-old all-rounder arrived in India on April 3 and had a negative COVID-19 test report at that time.
“His report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility,” the RCB said.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols.”

Meanwhile, former India wicketkeeper Kiran More, who is part of the Mumbai Indians’ coaching set-up, was tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
Kiran More has isolated himself in Chennai.
“Mr More is currently asymptomatic and has been isolated,” Mumbai Indians said in a statement.
“Mumbai Indians and Kiran More have followed all the BCCI health guidelines. The MI medical team will continue to monitor Mr. More’s health and abide by the BCCI protocols.” MI added.
According to the IPL protocols, asymptomatic cases or people with mild Covid-19 symptoms have to be isolated for a minimum of 10 days in a designated area outside of the biosecure bubble.
