Over 10 million people have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic globally, according to an AFP tally on Sunday.
Moreover, the deadly virus has also claimed more than 5,00,000 human lives across the world.
One million new cases were recorded in only six days, according to the AFP count.
With many countries starting to resume work after following lockdowns in order to revive the declining economic conditions, the global coronavirus situation still continues to present a grim picture due to the rapid increase of infections and deaths.
According to John Hopkins University tally, the United States still continues to be the worst affected country in the world with 2,548,996 cases and 125,803 deaths.
The second and the third worst-hit countries in the world includes Brazil and Russia with 1,344,413 and 633,563 cases respectively.
India is the fourth worst-hit country in the world due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to John Hopkins University tally.
India on Monday witnessed a spike of 19,459 cases in last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 5,48,318, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The number of active coronavirus cases in the country is 2,10,120 so far.
A total of 3,21,722 people has recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
The recovery rate is 58.56 per cent among the COVID-19 patients.
According to the Health Ministry data, 380 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 death toll to 16,475.
