The Delhi Government has imposed night curfew in the National Capital from Tuesday night onwards.

Night curfew has been imposed in Delhi following rapid and steep surge in COVID-19 cases.

Night curfew in Delhi will begin at 10pm and will continue till 5 in the morning.

The Delhi Government has informed that the night curfew will continue till April 30.

Notably, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently had said that Delhi was going through the fourth wave of COVID-19 but a lockdown was not being considered yet.

However, the Delhi Government on Tuesday decided to impose night curfew following the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases.

On Monday, Delhi recorded 3,548 fresh COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths.

During night curfew hours, traffic movement would not be stopped and those going for vaccinations will be allowed with an e-pass, officials said.

Those in essential services and retailers who need to travel after hours for ration, grocery stocks, vegetables, milk and medicines will also be allowed with similar passes.

So will journalists of the print and electronic media.

Doctors, nurses and other medical staff of private hospitals and other medical institutions would be allowed movement with ID cards.

Exceptions will also be made for pregnant women and those needing treatment.

The night curfew was being enforced to check the movement of people, not essential services, the Delhi government said in its order.

Officials also took into account large gatherings at restaurants and clubs at night.

The COVID-19 caseload in India has seen massive surge in the past couple of weeks.

India, on Monday, reported 96,982 fresh COVID-19 cases and 446 related deaths.

Of these, 47,288 cases were reported in Maharashtra alone.

Maharashtra imposed full lockdown on weekends and fresh restrictions to last through April.
