A feast in Assam’s Goalpara district was stopped by the district administration after Guwahati-based RJ Pallavi went live on Facebook with an appeal stop it.
Keeping in view of Radio Jockey (RJ) Pallavi made the appeal to the district authority as the feast of 400 people at Boguan Narangabari could help spread coronavirus.
Issuing advisories, the health departments of both the Centre and the state government have asked the citizens to avoid gatherings and maintain social distance.
The feast was arranged to mark post-Holi celebration.
Among the participants in the celebration, there were several people who recently came back coronavirus-prone states.
RJ Pallavi came to know about the matter from Tridip Nath, a local youth of the area.
Without wasting time, she went live on Facebook and appealed to all for timely action to stop the feast.
The celebration was immediately stopped as it came to the notice of Goalpara deputy commissioner Varnali Deka herself who also responded to Pallavi’s Facebook post.
“As it came to my knowledge, I immediately sent a magistrate to the spot and stopped it,” said deputy commissioner Deka while talking to Northeast Now.
“The villagers in return gave a written assurance not to hold it as the people are worried over the coronavirus pandemic,” Deka added.
The DC further appealed to all the citizens to follow coronavirus prevention guidelines as published by the government.
“Things are very very serious. People need to understand and stay at home. I also urge all the people to observe the ‘Janta Curfew’ as appealed by the Prime Minister,” said the deputy commissioner.
