As many as two show cause notices have been served to retired West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay.

While, one show cause notice has been served by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the other one has been served by the Department of Personnel and Training.

The MHA issued show cause notice to Alapan Bandopadhyay for reporting 15 minutes late to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cyclone review meeting on May 28.

The notice was issued on late Monday under the Disaster Management Act and sought a reply from Alapan Bandopadhyay within three days.

“Prime Minister and other members of his entourage waited for nearly 15 minutes for the officers of the State Government to arrive. In view of the absence, Chief Secretary was called by an official as to whether they wanted to participate in the review meeting or not. Thereafter, Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, arrived, along with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, inside the meeting room and left thereafter immediately,” the notice stated.

Meanwhile, another notice has been served to the former West Bengal Chief Secretary by the Department of Personnel and Training for failing to report to Delhi on Monday.

Disciplinary proceedings are also likely to be initiated against Bandopadhyay for “defying the order” of reporting to Delhi.

Bandyopadhyay, a 1987-batch IAS officer, was granted a three-month extension by the Centre and was called to Delhi on deputation.
