The Centre has scrapped the CBSE Class 12 Board exam for 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to cancel the exams was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was absent from the meeting as he is undergoing treatment at AIIMS due to post-COVID complications.

The centre has also decided that like last year, in case some students desire to take the exams, such an option would be provided to them by CBSE, as and when the situation becomes conducive.

“Students, parents and teachers are naturally worried about the health of the students in such a situation. Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation,” said PM Modi.
