Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday afternoon landed in Dhaka to be part of celebrations on Bangladesh’s 50 years of liberation.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received Modi in the airport after he landed.
Modi is on a two-day visit to the neighbouring country, during which he will participate in talks on various issues for fostering stronger bilateral lies between India and Bangladesh.
Incidentally, Bangladesh will be celebrating the birth centenary of Rahman this year, which has been termed as ‘Mujib Borso’.
The High Commission has received 100 customised Khadi Mujib jackets for the occasion from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
This is also the Indian Prime Minister’s first visit to a foreign country after the Covid-19 pandemic broke out last year.

During the visit, Modi will also visit the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths.
Goddess Kali is the presiding deity of the temple, which is situated in Ishwaripur of Shyamnagar in Bangladesh.
However, the interesting aspect of the diplomatic visit is that all officials at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka will don the popular ‘Mujib jackets’ to honour Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s ‘father of the Nation’.
