As a part of celebrations of the 50th year of victory of India over Pakistan in 1971 war, a delegation of Bangladesh Army will take part in the Republic Day parade at Raj Path in New Delhi on January 26.
This will be for the second time that soldiers from a foreign nation will march in India’s republic Day parade.
India and Bangladesh are celebrating 50 years of liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
A total of 96 soldiers of the Bangladesh army will march down the Raj Path carrying BD-08 rifles.
In 2016, soldiers from a 130-soldier strong contingent of the French Army took part in the Republic Day parade for the first time.
In 1971, Bangladesh was liberated following one of the fastest military campaign in history by Indian Army against Pakistan Army in erstwhile East Pakistan.

Over 90 thousand soldiers of Pakistan Army led by General AA Khan Niazi surrendered to the Indian Army after suffering a humiliating defeat.
On the other hand, keeping in view the new coronavirus strain, the Centre is likely to impose stricter COVID-19 protocols during the Republic Day celebrations.
Number of visitors and invitees for the Republic Day parade may be reduced to avoid overcrowding and ensure COVID-19 restrictions are followed.
The number of spectators is likely to be limited to 25,000.
