The National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, has won an absolute victory in the Myanmar polls.
According to the results, announced by the election commission on Friday show that the NLD party, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won 368 seats, which is more than 50% of Myanmar’s Parliament.
“People clearly realised the need for the NLD to get enough votes to form a government on their own,” a media report quoted NLD spokesman Myo Nyunt as saying, adding that the victory will help “minimise political conflict”.

While official results show that Aung San Suu Kyi’s party secured an absolute majority in the general election, the country’s former ruling military-aligned party has termed the polls neither free nor fair.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Nobel peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, National League for Democracy (NLD) for achieving victory.

Modi said the successful conduct of the polls in Myanmar is another step in the ongoing democratic transition of the neighbouring country.
Modi expressed that he looks forward to continuing the work with Suu Kyi for strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship between the two neighbouring countries.
“Congratulations to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi & NLD for victory in the elections. The successful conduct of polls is another step in the ongoing democratic transition in Myanmar. I look forward to continuing to work with you to strengthen our traditional bonds of friendship,” Modi tweeted.
