Udalguri: The All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU) has raised serious concerns over a spate of hate crimes targeting migrant workers from religious minority communities at Tangla town in Assam’s Udalguri district.

According to reports, self-styled members of the Veer Lachit Sena, led by Daleswar Boro, have been terrorizing migrant workers with threats and violence, forcing many to abandon their jobs and leading to the halt of multiple construction sites in the area.

ABMSU president Taison Hussain and a delegation lodged a formal complaint against the perpetrators at the Tangla Police Station on Saturday.

Expressing shock at the incidents, Hussain stated, “Despite constitutional guarantees of equal rights, including freedom of movement and livelihood, these miscreants under the banner of Veer Lachit Sena are openly promoting hatred between religious groups and threatening migrant workers with violence in broad daylight.”

He further condemned the group’s audacity in publicizing their actions on social media, highlighting their criminal intent and impunity.

Questioning the apparent inaction of the police and district administration, Hussain warned of the potential for communal unrest if the situation is not addressed promptly.

The ABMSU leader urged Udalguri Police and Assam DGP G.P. Singh to swiftly apprehend the culprits, ensure the safety of migrant workers, and implement measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
