As students of the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU) register their protest against reported appointment of Nita Ambani, the wife of billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani, as a visiting professor, the varsity authorities as well as the Reliance Industries have denied the reports.

According to local media reports, a proposal to appoint Nita Ambani a visiting professor of the Varsity was put forth internally last Friday at the BHU’s Centre for Women’s Studies and Development.

However, a press note issued by the BHU on Wednesday stated that several news reports have been published regarding Nita Ambani being a visiting professor at the women study centre, but the “university administration has not taken any official decision regarding appointment of Nita Ambani in any faculty, department or centre”.

On the other hand, the Reliance Industries Limited has rubbished the reports saying that “she (Nita Ambani) hasn’t received any invitation”.
