The man's family members alleged that the hospital administration tied his legs and hands to bed after he failed to pay Rs 11,000.

In a shocking incident, an 80-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur was found tied to a bed at a hospital after he allegedly failed to make payment of hospital bill.

The man’s family members alleged that the hospital administration tied his legs and hands to bed after he failed to pay Rs 11,000, ND TV reported.

“We had deposited a bill of Rs 5,000 at the time of admission but when the treatment took a few more days, we did not have the money to pay the bill,” said his daughter.

According to Virendra Singh Rawat, Shajapur district collector, a team has been sent to the hospital to investigate the matter and a police probe is underway, reports Hindustan Times.

According to reports, the man was brought to Shajapur District Hospital due to a stomach ailment earlier in the week.

The patient was allegedly tied to the hospital bed when the family members were unable to pay the hospital bill and urged the hospital administration to discharge him.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has promised to take strict action against the hospital.

“A case of cruelty with a senior citizen in a hospital in Shajapur has come to notice. The culprits will not be spared, strict action will be taken,” Chouhan tweeted.
