As many as 24 COVID-19 patients died at a hospital in Karnataka due to oxygen shortage.
The 24 COVID-19 patients died in Chamarajanagar after the district hospital they were receiving treatment at suddenly ran out of oxygen.
Chamarajanagar is located 175 kilometres away from Bengaluru.
The deaths were reported between 12am to 2am on Monday.
Over 140 patients including COVID-19 patients were receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Government has ordered an investigation into the incident.
“Our Government is investigating the incident,” said Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister – Dr Ashwathnarayan CN.

“Pained to learn about the incident in Chamarajanagar. My heart goes out to families who have lost their loved ones,” said Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister – Dr Ashwathnarayan CN.
A senior IAS officer has been appointed by the Karnataka Government to conduct an inquiry in the unfortunate incident.
IAS officer Shivayogi Kalasada has been appointed by the Karnataka Government to conduct an inquiry into the death of 24 patients at Chamarajanagar District Hospital.
The senior IAS officer will submit the report of his findings within 3 days.

Meanwhile, the State Government has informed that there has been an increase in demand for medical oxygen.
“Oxygen demand has increased in the state but we are trying our level best to meet it. We are exploring all possibilities to normalise the situation,” said Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraja Bommai.
