The central government on Wednesday asked Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to vacate her government bungalow by August 1.

The government in an order issued on Wednesday said the allotment of her official accommodation has been cancelled following the withdrawal of her SPG protection.

In its order, the Union Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs said since the security of Priyanka has been downgraded to Z+ with CRPF cover on all-India basis, she is no more entitled to a 6B type bungalow.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi currently lives in a Type 6B government house along Lodhi Road.

A letter was issued by GP Sarkar, deputy director of Estates (A-1), Union Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

The letter to Priyanka said: “Consequent upon withdrawal of SPG protection and grant of Z+ security cover by Ministry of Home Affairs, which does not have provision for allotment/retention of Government accommodation on security grounds to you, the allotment of Type 68 house No 35, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi is hereby cancelled w.e.f 01/07/2020.”

She has been given a concessional period of one month to stay in the bungalow at the same rent up to August 1, 2020 as per rules.

“It is, therefore, advised to vacate the house on or before 01/08/2020,” the letter said.

Any stay beyond August 1 will attract damage charges/penal rent as per rules, it further said.

A media report said Priyanka is planning to shift to Lucknow for long.

“It got delayed because of successive lockdowns because of Corona Virus pandemic,” a report quoted a source as saying on the condition of anonymity.

The report said hours after the cancellation of her allotment of the bungalow in New Delhi, the final touches at her supposed address in Lucknow have started under the supervision of senior state leaders.

The report revealed that she is likely to shift to her close relative and former union minister Sheila Kaul’s residence in Gokhale Marg.

The Congress has lashed out at the BJP government over the move and termed it a low-level politics.
