The Under 17 Assam soccer boys’ team representing India brought laurels to the State by winning gold in the final match against Nepal by 7-0 goals in the 4th Students’ Olympic International Games held at Kathmandu in Nepal on April 5.

This was informed by Dhaneswar Basumatary, an official of the team here in Udalguri on Saturday.

The team comprised Nepoleon N Daimari, Uttam Daimari, Ashik Boro, Gopinath Rabha, Biki Baglari, Julius Baglari, Abhijit Basumatari, Promod Kr Daimari, Preyarjit Basumatari, Premanush Toppo, Emanuel Daimari, Ismail Daimari and Prabhudan Orang.

When the team arrived at the Udalguri Railway Station on Saturday, the players were accorded a rousing welcome by the people of Udalguri town.

The Principal of Udalguri College, Dr Luke Daimari, Secretary of Udalguri District Sports Association Samuel Daimari, senior journalist Rewati Raman Sapkota among other distinguished persons felicitated the team members with phualm gamocha and aronai.

It may be mentioned that selected students from seven countries namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal participated in the fourth edition of the Students’ Olympic International Games organized by the Students’ Olympic Association, Asia from April 2 to April 5 at Kathmandu in Nepal.
