Meghalaya Police on Wednesday evening arrested one person for brutally assaulting an unidentified youth and beating him black and blue at Ranikor village in South West Khasi Hills bordering Bangladesh.

Superintendent of Police of South West Khasi Hills district, Maxwell Syiem told Northeast Now that the police have registered a suo motto case after the video of the youths beating the person went viral on the social media.

“The arrested youth has been identified as Teiborlang Marwein (24). He is a resident of Ranikor Bazar. There were about four youths involved in the case and we are looking for others involved in the crime,” Syiem said.

He said the incident took place around 1 pm on June 3 at Ranikor.

“It’s an incident that took place on June 3. However, interrogation is still on to find out the details behind the attack. We are told that the victim is a suspected Bangladeshi,” the SP said.

It may be mentioned that Northeast Now had reported the incident on Wednesday morning.

In the video, about four tribal youths were seen showering blows on the face and chest of the unidentified person on a rainy day.

They were also seen kicking the helpless youth from different directions.

The victim was seen begging for mercy with folded hands. Some of the tribal boys were even seen trying kicking the victim’s private parts.

The unidentified victim was bleeding and crying loudly. Police are trying to identify the victim.

It also could not be ascertained who shot the video and how the clip got viral on the social media. According to reports, the video got circulated in different WhatsApp groups in Meghalaya since Tuesday.
