That the Udalguri district has no dearth of sporting talents, the players from the region have showcased this in the national and international arena.
Having proven their mettle yet again are four junior boxers, (three of them being girls) from the Dhaneswar Basumatary Boxing Training Centre of Udalguri who clinched four gold medals in the four day East Zone sub junior boys/girls Boxing Championship organised by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
The championship was held at Golaghat from March 24 to 27 last.
The gold medalist boxers of Udalguri are Saya Brahma (42 kg), Hiranya Boro (50 kg), Lovely Daimari (30kg) and Errika Basumatary (46 kg).
All the winning talents were coached by Dhaneswar Basumatary.
It is to be noted that a total of 16 players from Assam clinched gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze in the events where 80 boxers of different weight categories of sub junior range participated from Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim.
