In a joint operation, a team of the Army and Rangiya Police nabbed two suspected linkmen of the militant organisation, Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) at Rangiya in Kamrup (Rural) district on Friday night.

According to information, based on specific information from the Army Intelligence, the Army and Rangiya Police launched a joint operation on February 23 night and nabbed two suspected linkmen of the MULTA at Rangiya.

The duo has been identified by police as 43-year-old Ibrahim Ali, a resident of village No 2 Uttar Rangapani under Nagarbera Police Station in Kamrup (Rural) district and 34-year-old Jakir Hussain, a resident of Paglatola village under Fekamari Police Station in Dhubri district.

As per official sources, the two apprehended persons who worked as over-ground workers for the MULTA were involved in various illegal activities like extortion and arms smuggling.  Source said, “The apprehended individuals were active over-ground workers and worked as linkmen for the MULTA outfit. They have been involved in a numerous illicit activities like extortion, highway dacoity, loot, weapon smuggling and other nefarious activities.”

Informing that a country-made pistol along with ammunition was recovered from the possession of the two suspected MULTA linkmen, sources added, “One country-made pistol and four bullets were recovered from the possession of the apprehended duo. The individuals were handed over to Rangiya Police Station.”

Official sources further hoped that the apprehension would prevent further nefarious activities in the area and has immensely gained the confidence of the local populace.

It may be mentioned that three MULTA militants were nabbed by the Army and Assam Police in a joint search operation conducted in Kokrajhar district of Assam last year in January.
