Two minor girls – two-year-old Anushmita Tiwari and three-year-old Pratibha Dhamalai -met their watery grave on Friday while the duo were playing together near a huge canal just next to their houses. The deceased are the daughters of Amrit Tiwari and Parashuram Dhamalai respectively, and both of them belonged to Nikashi village under Mushalpur police station in Baksa district of Assam.

According to reports, the two kids were playing near a huge canal near their house and the water was flowing down the canal at great speed. While playing, they reportedly fell down into the canal and the current of the water swept the girls away. The parents of both the children made frantic searches for their kids but they could not be traced for a while. And, finally, when they were traced, they were found on the bank of the canal.

Both the girls were in critical condition and were shifted to Mushalpur Civil Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The Mushalpur police have sent the bodies for postmortem.
