In a bizarre incident, the Ambassa Sub-divisional Police in Dhalai district under the leadership of Inspector Pranab Debnath arrested one Special Police Officer (SPO) from the Silchar-Agartala train at Ambassa Railway Station on charges of being allegedly involved in illegal activities.

“Based on secret inputs, the Ambassa Police team nabbed 36-year-old Parimal Debbarma, who is an SPO, as soon as the Silchar-Agartala train arrived at the Ambassa Railway Station at around 4 pm,” informed police sources, “After search, the police team recovered two 9 mm pistols, 7.65 mm 20 rounds of live cartridges along with cash Rs 1500 besides voter ID and Pan card.”

The incident has sparked off massive reactions across Ambassa.

It has been alleged that arrested Debbarma has been involved in several illegal activities and also allegedly involves kids in arms racket. “However, police are investigating into the case. Police expect that more information will come out during the interrogation,” said sources.

The Ambassa Police has registered a case (No 02/18) under section 251(A) against Debbarma.

Talking to media persons regarding the arrest of the SPO, the Superintendent of Police of Dhalai, Sudipta Das said, “The arrested SPO was posted in Radhakishorepur area under Khumlung and was absent in his duty for the past several days.”
