IPS officer VS Yadav has been appointed as Tripura’s new DGP.

Yadav is a Tripura cadre IPS officer of the 1987 batch.

He is currently serving as the principal secretary to the OBC Welfare department.

After the retirement of Akhil Kumar Shukla as the director-general of police (DGP) on January 31 this year, there was no full-fledged DGP in Tripura for the last 10 months.

Additional director-general (law and order) of Tripura Police, Rajiv Singh was serving as the DGP in-charge of the state.

According to sources, Tripura cadre IPS officer Amitabh Ranjan, who is serving as an additional director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) on deputation, was the first choice of the Tripura government for the post of state DGP.

But the central government reportedly declined to release him from his current responsibilities and the issue of recruiting a full-fledged DGP remained pending for the last 10 months.
