Tripura’s renowned poet Aparajita Roy died of COVID-19 complications on Friday at GBP Hospital around 10 am. She was 92.

However, her family was informed about the death by the hospital authorities by 4 pm.

It may be mentioned here that the revered poet was taken to ILS Hospital on September 3, where she tested positive for COVID-19.

Later, she was shifted to GBP Hospital and she was on oxygen support since September 9.

Neither her family, not her friends received any information about her health condition since then, even though they ran from pillar to post requesting for the same.

Born in 1929 in Lahore, her family later moved to Shillong.

Her brother was a member of the revolutionary communist party in Shilong.

She also took part in politics there and went to jail.

She came to Agartala during the 1950s and worked as a government school teacher.

She also promoted as the director of the education department.

In 2001 she received the Rabindra Nath Award- the highest honour for literature in Tripura.
