The chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Women, Barnali Goswami, on Wednesday met the gang-rape victims’ family members at their house in the Shanichara area under the Churaibari police station.
According to reports, two middle-aged women of Shanichara area were gang-raped on the night of Diwali in Assam.
The incident took place at Nilam Bazar in Assam’s Karimganj district.
The victims from Shanichara area went to meet their mother at Silchar Medical College Hospital, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital for cancer.

After visiting their mother at the hospital, both of the women booked a car for returning to Churaibari on the evening of Diwali.
On their way back home, five youths, including the driver, gang-raped the two women in an under-construction house at Nilambazar area of Karimganj district at around 1 pm.
The driver turned the vehicle towards a wrong road but the victims somehow managed to escape from the spot and filed a complaint with the Nilambazar police station.
Based on the statements of the two gang-rape victims, the Assam Police conducted an on-the-spot investigation and seized a lot of evidence from the spot of the incident.
Police also arrested one youth, identified as Abdul Ahad from the local market.
Abdul Ahad is stated to be the prime accused in the case.
On the basis of his confessions, Assam Police were able to arrest 3 other accused the next day from the Nilam Bazar area on charges of being involved in the gang-rape.
Besides, Assam Police in collaboration with Churaibari police station arrested two other accused, identified as Sufan Ali and Anwar Hossain from Phulbari area along with a white vehicle used by the arrested rapists.
At present, 6 rapists, involved in the gang-rape have been sent to jail in Assam.
Meanwhile, various sections of the people in the state have demanded severe punishment to those involved in the gang-rape of the two middle-aged women.
The chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Women Barnali Goswami went to the rape victims’ house on Wednesday and inquired about the incident from their families.
Talking to the victim’s family, the chairperson of the State Commission for Women came to know that the two middle-aged women had gone to Assam in a white car from Shanichara.
The two tribal women were gang-raped in an abandoned street taking advantage of their helplessness.
“Currently both the victims are in Assam’s Karimganj district for the sake of investigation,” said Goswami.
The family of the victims has demanded a proper investigation and appropriate punishment to the culprits.
