Two hardcore cadres of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have surrendered before the police in Tripura.

The two NLFT rebels surrendered before the North Tripura SP and DIG (North Range) Lalhminga Darlong.

Both the surrendered NLFT rebels received training in Bangladesh and were living in Nagaland along with NSCN members.

Both the militants laid down their arms while surrendering. The two surrendered NLFT rebels handed over three revolvers with ammunition.

The two surrendered NLFT rebels have been identified as Uttam Kishore Jamatia and Joseph Jamatia alias Kishore alias Michel alias Shuva Kumar.

Uttam Kishore Jamatia hails from Udaipur in Gomati district and had joined the NLFT way back in 2001 and underwent training at the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh.

“He (Uttam Kishore Jamatia) took part in many operations of the NLFT, including the killing of 17 CRPF jawans in an ambush at Chechingcharra in South Tripura district and an ambush on two buses of CRPF, besides many kidnapping cases,” the police said in a statement.

The other surrendered NLFT rebel – Joseph Jamatia is a self-styled sergeant of the NLFT’s D Umthai faction.

He was considered to be the main link between the NLFT ant the NSCN-IM. He was the ‘town commander’ of Dimapur in Nagaland for the NLFT.

In April 2017, he (Joseph Jamatia) was involved in the looting of MGNREGA funds worth Rs 18 lakh under Jampuijala police station.
