The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has postponed all of its events in Tripura after the BJP-led government in the state imposed prohibitory orders across the state.
The development comes after the Tripura High Court rejected the TMC’s plea to hold a mega rally in Agartala on Wednesday, which was to be attended by senior party leader Abhishek Banerjee.
“As per due process of law we have sought permission from the @BJP4Tripura Govt for all our events, only for them to be denied repeatedly. This time they did not even respond to our applications and we had to approach the HC to know that S.144 was being imposed in the state,” the TMC tweeted.
It added: “In line with the HC’s decision not to interfere in policy decisions, we are postponing our scheduled events in Tripura. We will seek further clarity from the court on the limits to such arbitrary use of executive power.”

However, Abhishek Banerjee will arrive in Tripura on Wednesday to attend a “Jogdaan karmasuchi” (joining programme).
The TMC, which is in power in West Bengal, claims sizeable support in BJP-ruled Tripura.
