More than one thousand people were affected by thunderstorms in the Dhalai district of Tripura.

The thunderstorm hit Kamalpur sub-division in Dhalai district on Tuesday night.

The Asharambari area in the district was also affected by the thunderstorm.

Sources said, “At least 19 families in the Asharambari area have been affected by the thunderstorm.”

“Their houses were damaged while many trees and electric poles were uprooted. The administrative officials rushed to the area and the roads were cleaned. The power connectivity has also been restored,” sources added.

Hailstorm lashed Kamalpur badly.

“Several parts of Kamalpur sub-division are still remaining cut off from other parts of the state as many trees were uprooted. The uprooted trees have blocked roads in many areas. Electricity connection has also been discontinued in the subdivision,” sources said.

“Hundreds of people have been affected by the hailstorm in the sub-division,” sources said.

The hailstorm rendered many people homeless.

Relief camps have been set up for homeless people.

A team of the district administration reached the affected areas to assess the losses caused due to the natural disaster.

The people of the area have demanded financial assistance from the Tripura government.

The Met department has warned of heavy rains for the next two days in Tripura.
