Three traffic constables in Tripura were suspended for not wearing masks as they were busy controlling the traffic.

The suspended traffic constables are Dulal Mia, Sohel Mia and Badal Mia.

The incident touted as the first of its kind in the country took place on Thursday in Agartala.

“They were found to be flouting the COVID-19 protocols as they did not wear masks as they were controlling the traffic,” informed a police source.

“This was reported to the higher officials, who immediately took action and suspended them,” informed police sources.

The Tripura government has declared that wearing a mask is mandatory for traffic police personnel while on duty.

It has also made masks compulsory for every government official and said strict action would be taken against anyone found not following the order.
