Senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Pabitra Kar’s residence at Khayerpur in Tripura on Sunday came under attack of a gang of miscreants.

Pabitra Kar, a senior CPI-M leader and a former State Minister alleged that “goons of BJP were behind the attack”.

Notably, as many as 3 journalists were also allegedly attacked by the miscreants, when they went to Pabitra Kar’s residence to cover the incident.

“A meeting was underway at my residence when it came under attack of miscreants backed by the ruling BJP,” Pabitra Kar alleged.

Further holding the ruling BJP responsible for the attack Pabitra Kar alleged that such kind of “attacks on CPI-M workers have been going on since March 2018”.

At least 20 CPI-M workers including women were allegedly injured in the attack.

“At least 20 CPI-M workers including women were injured in the attack. Condition of 3 of the injured is critical,”Pabitra Kar added.

The 3 CPI-M workers who sustained serious injuries have been identified as Shubha Kumar Deb, Ratan Das and Pinak Das.

Those seriously injured had to be taken to the hospital in a fire tender.

Notably, a number of motorcycles and other party vehicles were damaged in the attack.

Officials from the local police station along with personnel of paramilitary force reached to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel from the local police station accompanied by personnel of paramilitary force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“I already had a word with the police and urged them to take necessary steps in the matter,” said senior CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar.

Meanwhile, photographer of a Bengali daily – ‘Syandan Patrika’, who was allegedly attacked and his camera was also destroyed by the miscreants, has lodged an FIR with the Bodhjung Nagar Police Station.

On the other hand, BJP leaders in Khayerpur have refuted the allegations levelled by Pabitra Kar.

“BJP has nothing to do with the attack on Pabitra Kar’s residence. It is an internal clash within the CPI-M,” the BJP said.
