Agartala: Torrential rains that lashed Tripura on Friday caused significant damage to property and displaced at least 12 people.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Khowai district’s Teliamura area bore the brunt of the downpour, with one house completely destroyed and three others partially damaged.

Landslides triggered by the incessant rain affected the Gomati district’s Karbook area, with three incidents reported in Chelagang Mahadev Para, Bairagi Dukan Mantri Das Para, and Ramchandra. Emergency response teams from the PWD and Forest Department cleared the landslides.

Damage to homes was widespread, with six houses partially damaged and 16 severely affected across the state.

Other areas, including Belonia, Sabroom, and Santirbazar sub-divisions, experienced landslides and uprooted trees. Clearing operations are underway by PWD, SDRF, and Fire Services personnel.

While major rivers like Howrah, Khowai, and Gomati are currently below flood levels, the situation is more critical in the South district. The Muhuri river has breached the danger mark, and the Feni river is also rising rapidly.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm and lightning alert for all Tripura districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for South and Gomati districts, with other regions likely to experience heavy showers.
