Tripura is gearing up for COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Speaking on the preparedness of the State to conduct the vaccination drive, Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the moment the State receives COVID-19 vaccine from the Centre, it will start the vaccination drive.

“Tripura is ready for the vaccination drive. It will start as soon as we get the vaccines from the Centre,” said Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

He informed that the State has prepared itself for the vaccination drive as per the directives issued by the Centre.

Ratan Lal Nath further informed that the Centre has already sanctioned 1.92 lakh syringes and 7 ice refrigerators for Tripura.

Notably, Tripura Government has constituted State-level, district-level and block-level committees to monitor smooth conduct of the vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Government has claimed that the COVID-19 situation in the State has improved.

Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the Government is mulling to reduce the number of COVID-19 beds in COVID Care Centres “as the situation has improved”.

He said, “The Health department has decided to reduce the number of beds in various COVID Care Centres as the situation is improving.”

Earlier, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb announced that the State Government will give away a grant of Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of those killed due to COVID-19.

This Rs 10-lakh financial assistance would be provided in three instalments. The first 2 installments would carry an amount of Rs 3 lakh each, while the third and last instalment would be of Rs 4 lakh.

Tripura thus far has recorded a total of 375 COVID-19 related deaths.

Minister Ratan Lal Nath further informed that the State Government has already sanctioned Rs 3.84 crore to give away financial assistance to the families of those killed due to COVID-19.

Notably, the families of those deceased need to submit an application before the District Magistrate of their respective districts, who in turn will enquire about the cause of death of the deceased. If everything is found correct, the financial assistance would be granted.
