A man hailing from Kailasahar in Tripura’s Unokoti district allegedly sold his one-month-old baby boy for Rs 5000 to a childless couple due to poverty.
Locals said the man, a daily wage worker, has three other children.
He handed over the baby boy to a childless couple living at Dhatuchara ADC village of the district.
The man said he has not got work for last one and half month regularly making it impossible for him to run his six-member family.
The child was rescued Childline officials with the help of Kailasahar police on Monday.
The child was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) which will decide where the baby will be kept.
