Suspended SP Ajit Pratap Singh

The BJP government in Tripura on Thursday initiated disciplinary action against a handful of cops of the state for their alleged failure to arrest former PWD minister Badal Choudhury in connection with a scam involving Rs 600 crore.

While West Tripura district superintendent of police (SP) Ajit Pratap Singh was placed under suspension, DIG (Sothern Range) Arindam Nath and SDPO Dhruva Nath have been removed from their posts.

SP (Anti-Narcotics Branch) Manik Lal Das has been posted as new SP of West Tripura.

DIG (Northern Range) Soumitra Dhar is posted in place of Nath and DIG (Intelligence) L Darlong is posted as DIG of Northern Range replacing Dhar.

Raju Reang, who was the investigating the PWD minister Choudhury case has also been shunted out from the case.

Deputy SP Ajoy Kumar Das has been transferred to crime branch and has given charge of the case.

Government’s action came after they fail to arrest the former PWD minister and senior CPI (M) leader Choudhury, who faced an arrest warrant for his alleged role in a scam worth Rs. 600 crore in execution of PWD works.

Police launched massive search operations on Wednesday night to arrest the former PWD minister after a local court denied his anticipatory bail but failed to trace him.

On last Sunday, the vigilance department lodged an FIR against Badal Choudhury and two others in connection with the scam.
