The Tripura High Court has refused to pursue a case against chief minister Biplab Deb for his “contempt of court” remark.
The Tripura High Court turned down a plea from a group of advocates seeking intervention of the court into the remark of CM Biplab Deb, saying that it doesn’t want ‘indulge’ in a controversy.
A division bench comprising Tripura HC chief justice AA Kureshi and justice SG Chattopadhyay heard the matter.
The judges told the advocates that it was “closing the matter”, as CM Deb has already issued a clarification into the matter.

Meanwhile, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb issued a clarification saying that his earlier remarks were misinterpreted.
“The reporting of my speech on 25/9/21 is being twisted and wrongly reported by some print and electronic media to project disregard to the judiciary and judicial institutions.
I firmly and unequivocally clarify that I hold all the judicial institutions in the highest esteem and also am duty bound to uphold the majesty of the judiciary.
I have not told the officers or even remotely intended to convey any message to disregard courts or disrespect court orders as reported. My words have been published out of context,” the clarification reads.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb, like on many occasions, had stroked a major controversy ‘mocking’ democracy and judiciary in the country.
Speaking at the biennial conference of Tripura Civil Service Officers’ Association on Saturday, CM Biplab Deb asked bureaucrats not to worry about contempt of court cases, as “the power is in the hands of who runs the government”.
Biplab Deb said: “How many officers have been sent to jail on contempt of court charges so far?”
“I control the police. I want to assure all of you that I am the tiger. The power is in the hands of who runs the government,” Deb said.
