Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb informed on Thursday that the government will take action against those nurses who spoke to media regarding the quality of masks and PPEs made available to them.
He was interacting with the media after visiting the GB Pant Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Agartala on Thursday.
The nurses and healthcare officials of some hospitals on Tuesday and Wednesday staged agitations across the state and said they should be provided with N95 masks.
They also alleged that the personal protective equipment (PPE)s made available are not up-to-the-mark.
“As per protocol, N95 masks are made available to only those health workers who are directly engaged in serving at dedicated COVID-19 hospitals,” Deb said.
“The nurses cannot demand N95 masks if they are not directly working at such hospitals. The decision will be made by the government,” Deb added.
“Moreover, as government officials, they cannot speak in front of the media. Action will be taken against those nurses who spoke to the media,” Deb further said.
“The behaviour of a few nurses has created a panic like situation in the state,” Deb added.
The CM further informed that he also spoke to the first COVID-19 patient of the state and informed that her condition is presently stable.
Later towards the evening, state health secretary Debasis Basu informed that a total of 18 nurses were served show-cause notice for their behaviour.
