The Tripura government has sought the opinion of parents on holding of the secondary and higher secondary examinations.

Parents can provide their opinions online on the Tripura Board of Secondary Education’s (TBSE) website, said state education minister Ratan Lal Nath  during a meeting in Agartala on Monday evening.

Earlier the minister had announced that the TBSE board was contemplating on conducting the examinations in selective papers in view of the Covid-19 situation across the state.

While a total of 26,610 candidates were to take the class X board exams, 27,205 candidates were to appear for the higher secondary examinations that were scheduled to begin from May 18 this year.

Nath said that the feedback will be taken from Tuesday till 6 pm on June 15 as the opinions of parents play a vital role while taking important decisions regarding the academic future of the students.

“Parents can comment on the board’s website by clicking on ‘yes and no’ for the test. Feel free to express your opinion on this important issue,” Ratan Lal Nath said.

“After that the Tripura government will take the final decision on whether to conduct the board examinations or not,” he said.

The state government will also hold a meeting with experts on June 14 to take a final call on the secondary and higher secondary examinations.

“The education department has invited prominent educationists, psychologists, journalists and former education ministers to the meeting. Their combined analysis of the situation will be helpful in arriving at a concrete decision on the examinations,” Nath opined.

The education minister further said that he has personally spoken with some students and their parents over the telephone.

“I have spoken to a few students and their parents, but the opinion of so few people are not enough. Therefore, steps have been taken to seek the views of more parents through the TBSE website,” Nath added.

Meanwhile, many states across India have already cancelled the Xth and XIIth standard board examinations in view of the alarming spike in Covid-19 positive cases.
