Agartala: Tripura authorities apprehended eight Bangladeshi women and one Indian national during a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station.

The group was reportedly attempting to board the Kanchanjunga Express bound for Mumbai.

Police sources revealed that the Bangladeshi women, identified as Tania Hasan Seikh, Sathi Khatum, Surmi Sheikh, Ruma Sheikh, Rejuwan Sheikh, Beauty Khatun, Supriya Sheikh, and Majeda Biswas Pinky, are suspected of entering Tripura illegally from the Sonamura sub-division in Bangladesh’s Sepahijala District.

Acting on a tip about suspicious activity, authorities set up a surveillance operation at the railway station.

“Their behavior raised red flags, so we detained them for questioning,” explained a GRP officer, Tapas Das.

“Initial questioning revealed they planned to travel to Mumbai and Pune via Sealdah in search of work. They admitted to illegally crossing the border from Comilla, Bangladesh,” Das said.

The Indian national, identified as Sentu Kumar Deb, is suspected of facilitating their travel. Authorities confirmed legal proceedings have begun against all individuals.

“We are conducting further investigation and have filed a case. We will present them before the court and request police remand,” Das said
