Dates for elections to the civic bodies in the Northeast state of Tripura are likely to be announced on Friday.

According to reports, the elections for the civic bodies in Tripura will be held in the last week of November.

Elections to the Tripura civic bodies were postponed earlier by the Tripura government citing COVID-19 situation.

Tenure of most of the bodies expired in December last year.

There are a total of 20 urban local bodies in Tripura comprising 13 municipal councils, six Nagar panchayats and one municipal corporation.

Meanwhile, all the political parties in Tripura have started gearing up for the elections to the civic bodies in the state.

The municipal elections in Tripura are being viewed as a warm-up event ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state in 2023. 

The upcoming civic bodies elections in Tripura is likely to be a triangular contest between the BJP, the TMC and the Left Front.
