Tripura BJP MLA Ashish Das is all set to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday (October 31).

This was informed exclusively to this correspondent by Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh.

Singh said: “I personally had been in talks with Ashish Das for the past several months. Some hurdles delayed Das’ joining the TMC. But everything has now been sorted and he will join us officially on October 31.”

“Ashish Das is a very good leader and has the support of the people of Tripura. In fact, he was the first BJP leader who openly criticised the Biplab Deb-led BJP government in the state over misrule,” the Tripura TMC chief said.

Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh also informed that Ashish Das after joining the TMC will be given a top position in the state TMC unit.

Ashish Das will join the TMC at a ceremony in the presence of the party’s national general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, who will arrive in the state on Sunday.

Notably, Ashish Das, BJP MLA from Surma constituency in Tripura, has been very critical of the Biplab Deb-led BJP government in the state.

“I had put my faith in the BJP to end the misrule of the Left Front government led by Manik Sarkar. But it was a mistake,” Ashish Das had said earlier in Kolkata.

On October 6, Ashish Das in Kolkata had shaved his head, took a dip in Adi Ganga, a distributary of the Hooghly River and offered prayers at the Kalighat temple, saying he was performing an act of penance before joining the TMC.
