Trinamool Congress leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee will hold his maiden rally in Agartala on September 16.

Banerjee’s rally was earlier scheduled to be held on September 15 but it had to be rescheduled after permission for that day was denied.

The TMC on Monday claimed that the Tripura Police denied permission for Banerjee’s rally as another party had already received permission to hold an event on the same route on that day.

Even though the Tripura Police has not granted permission for the September 16 rally, the party is firm to hold the padyatra as per the new schedule.

As per reports, Banerjee did not seek any permission from any department to hold a rally in the state.

As the state is currently witnessing massive violence that erupted in Agartala and adjoining districts on Wednesday, Abhishek Banerjee is expected to hit out at Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for the law and order situation during his rally.

Tripura was rocked by massive violence after clashes erupted between CPI-M and BJP workers in different parts of the state, with CPI-M offices being vandalised in Agartala and vehicles outside being set ablaze.

CPI-M blamed the BJP for the turn of events.
