Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader – Abhishek Banerjee will arrive at Agartala in Tripura on Friday.

Abhishek Banerjee will take part in a demonstration in protest against the ‘detention’ of poll strategist Prashant Kishore’s I-PAC team members.

This was informed exclusively to Northeast Now by Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh on Wednesday.

“Few of the top TMC leaders have arrived in Agartala today at 10:00am. I personally received them at the airport. MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar will arrive tomorrow and Abhishek Banerjee will reach the state on Friday,” Tripura TMC president Ashish Lal Singh informed this correspondent.

“Our party workers in Dharmanagar, including youth wing president and district president were brutally beaten up by the police there today as they were holding a protest rally against the detention of the I-PAC team members,” Singh alleged.

Tripura Police has registered a case against the I-PAC team of poll strategist Prashant Kishore, which is in Tripura and were ‘detained’ in an Agartala hotel.

A team of 23 members of I-PAC was under “house arrest” for over 48-hours till Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, all the 23 members of I-PAC team have been served summons by the Tripura Police.

The police have asked the I-PAC team members to appear before the investigating officer of the case between August 1 and 3.

A case has been registered against the I-PAC team members under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 51b of the National Disaster Management Act (NDMA).

Notably, the TMC has been able to revive its party, to a large extent, in Tripura with thousands of ground level workers joining the party ever since the party secured an emphatic win in West Bengal elections.
