“Intolerance in religion, threatening our region,” the Tripura Congress has stated in its letter to Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina. 

In a letter written to Bangladesh PM Shiekh Hasina, Tripura Congress president – Birajit Sinha has raised concerns on recent “attacks on minority community in Bangladesh”. 

“Attacks on minority community in Bangladesh is an attempt to destabilise the cultural and social atmosphere in the region,” Tripura Congress president – Birajit Sinha stated in his letter. 

He added: “Intolerance in religion (is) threatening our region, we have to prevent (anti-social elements) in all means to take advantage out of it… freedom and liberalism must be regulated, otherwise it may yield to anarchy.”

The Tripura Congress has also ‘demanded’ the Bangladesh government to take immediate necessary steps to stop attacks on minority community in that country. 

“We demand that the Bangladesh government should take initiatives to stop the incidents immediately,” Sinha further stated in the letter. 

He further said: “In Bangladesh, minority community is subjected to inhumane attacks… vandalisation of places of religious importance.” 

The letter was submitted by a delegation of Tripura Congress to the assistant high commission, Bangladesh at Agartala in Tripura.

Meanwhile, at least seven people have confessed to instigating and taking part in communal violence in Bangladesh recently. 

At least 683 people have been arrested by the police in Bangladesh and over 70 cases have been filed accusing 24,000 suspects, most of whom were anonymous, reports said. 

Attacks on minority Hindu community were reported from across Bangladesh during the Durga Puja festivities after an alleged blasphemous post on social media went viral on October 13.
