Hundreds of protestors on Wednesday gathered at the Panisagar Bazaar in Tripura’s Panisagar sub-division to protest against the recent rape of a minor girl.

Hundreds of protestors gathered in the Panisagar Bazaar area at around 11 am on Wednesday morning to protest the rape of a minor girl hailing from a village in Panisagar.

They also took out a rally demanding justice for the minor victim and stringent punishment for the accused.

The rally that began from the Panisagar School concluded in front of the Panisagar Police Station.

The protestors also met officer-in-charge of the Panisagar Police Station Saugat Chakma and sub-divisional police officer Sauvik Dey, demanding the execution of the three accused of raping the minor.

Senior officials of the Panisagar sub-divisional administration was also present on the occasion.

One of the accused Rajesh Rudrapal was produced before the Dharmanagar district sessions court on Wednesday.

The Panisagar police and the sub-divisional administration assured the protesters that exemplary punishment would be meted out to the culprits.

Meanwhile, several leaders participating in the rally said they were deeply saddened by the Tripura government’s abject failure in effectively tackling the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
