A mob lynched a daily wage worker in Agartala suspecting him to be a thief.

The deceased has been identified as Prasenjit Saha, a resident of Agartala.

Prasenjit Saha’s family members have lodged a case with the police on Monday.

The victim’s wife told the reporters on Monday that Prasenjit, who was a welding worker, went out of the house on Friday morning for work.

She said as Prasenjit did not return home on Friday night, they started searching for on Saturday in different probable places but failed to gather any information regarding his whereabouts.

On Monday, his family members came to know that a mob lynched a youth on Saturday at GB Bazar, suspecting him to be a thief.

They immediately rushed to GB Bazar and started asking the locals about the incident.

Later, Prasenjit’s family members went to the NCC police station where they were told by the police that they had recovered two unknown bodies, which were shifted to the GBP Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

At GBP Hospital, the family members found the body of Prasenjit in the morgue.

Prasenjit’s wife told the reporters, “My husband was not a thief. I knew him well. We tied the knot just one year back.”

The family members said, “Prasenjit’s health was not well. He was sitting in the veranda of a shop in GB Bazar. But a mob lynched him brutally.”

It was not the first case of mob lynching in Tripura.

The state earlier recorded several incidents of mob lynching.

Last month, an employee of the fire service department, identified as Biswajit Debbarma, died at Panisagar due to attack by an agitating mob.

In 2018, four people were lynched in Tripura.
