The Centre, on Wednesday, has said that no specific group has been identified for spreading rumours and hate speeches against minorities in Tripura that led to communal violence in the state recently.
“No specific group identified for spreading rumours and hate speeches against minorities. However, 6 cases have been registered in respect of the malicious posts in social media spreading rumour and communal hatred,” Minister of State for Home – Nityanand Rai informed to Rajya Sabha on Tripura violence.
The minister further said that there were only “sporadic incidents of damage to property” during the violence, thus rejecting reports of widescale violence in Tripura.
“Tripura government has informed that there have been some sporadic incidents of damage to property. 15 cases have been registered over these incidents in the State during the last few weeks,” Rai said.
He further said that security has been beefed up in all religious places in Tripura to prevent any untoward incident.
“To prevent such incidents, Tripura government has extensively deployed police forces in the affected areas. Mobile, fixed pickets during night and regular patrolling being continued. All religious places have been provided security coverage,” MoS for Home Nityananda Rai said.
Notably, the Supreme Court, on Monday, had issued notices to the Centre and the Tripura government on a plea seeking probe into recent alleged communal flareup in the state.
The plea by advocate Ehtesham Hashmi alleged that despite the gravity and magnitude of the incidents, no concrete steps were taken by the Tripura police against the miscreants and rioters.

On October 26, a mosque was reportedly vandalised at Panisagar sub-division in North Tripura district during rally taken out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Moreover, at least two shops and three houses were also set on fire during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally.
The VHP took out the rally to protest against the recent attacks and violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
