Former education minister and sitting CPI(M) MLA Tapan Chakraborty has demanded cancellation of the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, conducted by Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) due to the Covid19 situation.
Chakraborty said: “On June 1, the central government cancelled the school leaving exams of CBSE and CISCE and is trying to evolve alternative methods of evaluation for declaring results. But our TBSE authority is yet to take any meaningful step towards this direction.”
“At a time when the lives of people and even young students confront a major threat from COVID infection, the best option is to cancel the exams and devise an alternative method of evaluation,” Chakraborty suggested.
The former Tripura education minister also referred to the anxiety and tension among students and their guardians due to the prevailing uncertainty over the sensitive issue.
Chakraborty asserted that to end the anxiety of students and guardians as well as to protect them from Covid19 infection, the best decision is cancellation of examinations and evolving an alternative method of evaluation.
The state education department has convened a meeting to be held on June 14 next where officials of TBSE, health department and other eminent academics, psychologists, journalists and others will attend to determine the policy of the examinations, said education minister Ratan Lal Nath.
