A 55-year-old woman was raped at Kaiyadhepa in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
According to reports, the incident happened about a week ago, and it came to light on Wednesday.
As soon as the incident came to light, the accused as detained by the local people and was later handed over to the police.
On October 24, a 90-year-old woman was raped at Kanchanpur of Tripura. Police have so far failed to arrest anyone in that incident.
This time the incident took place in Kaiyadhepa area of Kamalasagar, and the victim was suffering from some chronic ailment.
Her husband was not at home on the night of Lakshmi Puja, and taking advantage of the situation, the accused raped the ailing woman.
Initially, the victim did not tell anyone about the rape as she could not gather courage. But as her health condition was getting worse day by day, she told about the incident to her husband.
The husband immediately informed the people, including the village elders of Kaiyadhepa about the incident.
The victim accused one Samir Das, a resident of the area of raping her. The accused is married, and is father of two sons and daughters.
People of Kaiyadhepa were infuriated with the act of Samir Das, and detained him and produced him before the elders of the area.
A group of elders of the area interrogated the accused on Wednesday. Initially Samir Das denied of committing the crime and tried to escape from the meeting.
But people of the area caught Samir Das after a hot chase. Local youths gave Samir Das a good thrashing.
Later, the accused reportedly confessed that he had raped the 55 year old woman.
The local people informed the Madupur police station, and the accused was arrested on the basis of an FIR filed by the victim in the police station.
