The Tripura government has declared 20 CBSE affiliated government and government-aided schools as ‘Specified Category Schools, said education minister Ratanlal Nath.
These 20 ‘specified category’ schools will be functioning like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas, minister Nath told reporters on Tuesday.
“The Council of Ministers approved 20 schools as specified category schools in the state under Section 2(P) of The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009,” said Nath while briefing media persons at the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday evening.
Currently, all the academic curriculums of these schools are conducted as per CBSE norms.
At present, 29 schools are affiliated to the CBSE, Nath informed.
With an aim to provide quality education in Tripura, the school education department of the state has brought 25 reforms and the higher education department has brought 10 reforms, Nath said.
Nath further said, “All the students seeking admission from any part of the state shall be considered if seats are available. When the number of applicants exceeds the number of vacant seats in any of the aforesaid schools, the admission of children will be done by a draw of lottery at entry level.”
“In Nursery, Class 1 and up to Class V, for any interim vacancies, admission will be done through screening test while for admission in Class VI and above, 100% roster will be followed,” he added.
The specified category of schools will maintain certain standards such as – students from all over the state shall be allowed to participate in the admission process; national level standard of teaching -learning; availability of teachers (all subjects) as per CBSE norms; full-fledged ICT Lab facility and fully functional practical laboratories and libraries.
The other standards include English medium with the option to study local languages as subjects; standard school building & playground; classes shall be available from pre-primary to class XII; selection of HM/ teachers through formal screening process from the available manpower of education department and limiting of class size to 40 as an upper cap to ensure teachers’ attention.
The schools which have been brought under “specified category” are – Shishu Bihar HS School, Agartala; Umakanta Academy English Medium, Agartala; Henry Derazio Academy HS School, Agartala; Dr. B.R Ambedkar English Medium HS School, Agartala; Khumpui Academy English Medium HS School, Khumulwng and Sukanta Academy English Medium HS School, Jirania.
The other schools are Bishalgarh English Medium HS School, Bishalgarh; Sonamura English Medium HS School, Sanamura; Udaipur Govt. English Medium HS School, Udaipur; Amarpur Govt. English Medium HS School, Amarpur; Belonia Govt. English Medium HS School, Belonia; Sabroom Govt. English Medium HS School, Sabroom; Teliamura Govt. English Medium HS School, Teliamura and Khowai Govt. English Medium HS School, Khowai;
